Welcome to photo.COLOGNE 2010

Internationale Photoszene Köln e.V. is working with IPK <festival>, Koelnmesse GmbH, the Visual Gallery at photokina and the “photokina: Köln fotografiert!” event to establish and promote Cologne as a leading centre for photography.

The leading international trade show photokina, the Visual Gallery and the “Kernwochenende” (“Main Weekend”) of the IPK <festival> are the highlights of photo.COLOGNE’s activities in September 2010.

“Internationale Photoszene Köln e.V.” (IPK <verein>) is promoting the IPK <festival> under the shared umbrella brand while maintaining its independent character. The same applies for Koelnmesse, which will be involved in the “international photography weeks” with the Visual Gallery and the popular “photokina: Köln fotografiert!” (“Cologne takes pictures!”) event during the photokina trade show.

The following pages provide information on all of the scheduled photography exhibitions, events and cultural highlights, including links to the websites of the responsible organisations.

In the past 20 years, the "Internationale Photoszene Köln" has established itself as a magnet for the public and a highly regarded cultural event and finally, with nearly 20,000 visitors, one of the most important events in international photography. With the new IPK <festival> branding, the IPK <verein> 2010 is starting a new future and calling on all photographers, museums, galleries, cultural institutes, companies and associations to become involved in this "project". Approximately 90 selected participants are expected to be represented at the Internationale Photoszene Köln.

For years, the exhibitions at the Visual Gallery have covered an impressive spectrum of documentary, design and artistic photography. It is very rare to experience 12 exhibitions at a single location. Once again, the Visual Gallery will present outstanding works of internationally renowned photographers and award-winning rising stars as the artistic highlight of photokina 2010.

The enthusiasm for images will be all over Cologne in September, the photokina month. With the event format "photokina: kölnfotografiert!", the event organisers have created a platform that will take the subject of photography beyond the trade fair site and into the city. Photography enthusiasts and amateurs, be they novices or professionals, are once again invited to get active with their cameras and explore the possibilities of images in 2010. And, in keeping with Cologne number symbolism, 111 workshops are planned where professionals will offer advice about how to get a better picture.
